China-Sweden Technology and Innovation Fund Established in Shenzhen

   Shenzhen Municipal Party Committee representative and Vice Mayor Chen Biao warmly welcomed Mrs. Anna Lindstedt, Swedish Ambassador to China and her staff, on January 20 at the Wuzhou Guest House. After the pair exchanged cordial greetings amidst a friendly atmosphere, Vice Mayor Chen also welcomed the establishment of the China-Sweden Technology and Innovation Fund in Shenzhen. After the meeting, Vice Mayor Chen and Ambassador Lindstedt witnessed the signing ceremony for the foundation of the China-Sweden fund.
  
   With the assistance of Invest Shenzhen, Shenzhen Investment Holdings Co.,Ltd. and NGT partners holding Co.,Ltd (NGT) jointly launched the China-Sweden Technology and Innovation Fund with total funds of RMB 10 billion. Invest Shenzhen and the China Development Bank Corporation Shenzhen Branch will provide services such as resource integration, ancillary financing and policy advice. NGT, is focused on investing in bringing next generation innovative medical technologies from the Nordics to growth markets as China.

  The cooperation between the two is highly regarded by the leaders of the Shenzhen Municipal Party Committee and the city government. Prior to this, Mr. Ma Xingrui, the acting governor of Guangdong Province and the former Shenzhen Municipal Party Committee Secretary, had met three times with representatives both from the Karolinska Institute and from NGT Partners, and expressed his wishes to introduce advanced Nordic medical technology to Shenzhen. Vice Mayor Ai Xuefeng has also led a team to visit Sweden and had informal discussions with the Karolinska Institute on strengthening the communication and cooperation in life sciences and biotechnology. After several efforts, the new Fund is established to strengthen the links between the Swedish and the Shenzhen innovation systems, winning great praise and support from the both the Chinese and Swedish ambassadors.

  The China-Sweden Technology and Innovation Fund will support the cooperation with first-class universities including the Karolinska Institute and Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) to shape new innovation based life-science enterprises, promote its establishment in Shenzhen among experts and R&D groups and provide a platform for Chinese enterprises to obtain high-end life science technology. It will also strengthen the control and management of pre-and-post investment measures. The China-Sweden Technology and Innovation Fund will focus on investing in mature technologies such as Swedish Life Sciences and Health to help those programs with industrial capacities to transfer to and develop in China. It can also combine the Chinese markets, provide abundant capital for Swedish R&D capabilities, and advanced industrialization of the sector and turn Swedish R&D results into commercial products on a growth market. The establishment of these programs will have a great impact on the development of Life Sciences and the Health industry in Shenzhen.

  After the signing ceremony, a China-Sweden Life Science Technology and Innovation Forum was held. Mrs. Anna Lindstedt and Mr. Wang Yongjian, GM of Shenzhen Investment Holdings Co.,Ltd., delivered speeches. In addition, several industrial experts from both Sweden and Shenzhen gave keynote speeches. Professor Dr. Hans Glise with experiences from both AstraZeneca and Novo Nordisk, introduced the Nordic Life Science Innovation system, shared Nordic experiences in developing global best-selling drugs as well as the related patent technologies. Professor Mr. Zhang Han from Shenzhen University, introduced the results of several R&D projects regarding the application of new materials in medicine. The forum was a great success, having smoothly promoted the understanding and communication between Shenzhen and Sweden.
