In order to attract major projects and further promote cooperation between Shenzhen and developed North American cities in technology, investment and finance, a delegation led by Mr. Wang Youming, Director General of Invest Shenzhen, visited the US, Mexico and Canada, where they carried out investment promotion activities from October 9 to 18. The delegation included teams from Invest Futian Shenzhen and Invest Longgang Shenzhen as well as company representatives. The delegation held three investment forums and approximately 300 people participated in the events. It also visited the NASDAQ and the Latin American Chamber of Commerce.
The delegation hosted the “China (Shenzhen) - US (New York) Investment Cooperation Summit” at the Chinese Consulate General in New York. At the conference, Acting Consul General Zhao Yumin and Director General Wang delivered speeches. Mr. Wang said that the delegation's investment promotion work in the United States is to enhance the confidence between the two countries and the two cities in regards to economic and trade cooperation. He also expressed his hope that the United States can learn more about Shenzhen's strengths, feel the city’s charm and continue to participate in the development of the Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Chinese scientist Li Daxi, Senior Vice President of the Swiss Bank, and other renowned Wall Street scholars and organizations participated in investment exchange activities.
During the visit to the United States, the delegation also held the "China (Shenzhen) - US (Omaha) Investment Cooperation Summit" in Omaha. Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert attended the summit during which the two sides discussed how to strengthen cooperation between the two cities and jointly promote cooperation in high-tech, agricultural products, medical care as well as inspection and testing.
On October 17, the delegation visited Canada and held the "China (Shenzhen) - Canada (Toronto) Investment Cooperation Summit". Director General Wang and Mr. Akhil Tyagi, Director of the Ontario Department of Economic Development, Employment and Trade in Asia and Oceania, attended the summit and delivered speeches. Approximately 100 Chinese and Canadian business people attended the summit.
Mr. E Defeng, Counselor of the Chinese Consulate General in Toronto, attended the summit and delivered a speech in which he welcomed the delegation led by Mr. Wang on behalf of the Consul General and congratulated the China-Canada Investment Promotion Center for successfully hosting the meeting. The speeches fully reflected Shenzhen’s vitality and openness, as it is a young city that has developed during the 40 years of China’s reform and opening-up. As the economic, financial, cultural and education center of Ontario and Canada, Toronto is a vibrant city and this summit helped both sides to find additional investment opportunities and facilitated further economic and trade cooperation between China and Canada.
The delegation also visited the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, the Omaha Beef Association, the Mexico Cancun International Conference Center, the China Latin American Chamber of Commerce, Canada's new Targus Technologies Pvt. Ltd. and the Sino-Canada International Innovation Center (SCI Innovation Center). It also conducted studies and held discussions with representatives from enterprises and institutions on how to strengthen cooperation between Shenzhen and the other cities in economy, trade, science and technology as well as finance so as to attract competitive enterprises to invest in Shenzhen.
