PONY MA, chairman and CEO of Tencent, with a wealth of 276.73 billion yuan (US$39 billion), ranks No. 2 in a new list of the 500 richest Chinese.

　　The list was compiled by the New Fortune magazine.

　　Jack Ma, founder of Alibaba Group, tops the list with wealth over 300 billion yuan and Xu Jiayin with Evergrande ranks No. 3 with wealth at 198.1 billion yuan, the Daily Sunshine reported yesterday, quoting a source from the compiler.

　　Among the 500 richest Chinese, 96 come from the technology, media, telecommunications (TMT) industry, 50 percent higher than the real estate industry. The fortune of China’s richest 500 people totaled 10 trillion yuan, or about 27 billion yuan on average, an increase of 27.8 percent over the previous year, indicating strong economic development potential in China.

　　Of the 500, 114 come from Guangdong, topping the other provinces for the past 12 years. Among Guangdong’s richest people, half of them, 57, come from Shenzhen.

　　The list shows TMT and biopharmacy are two engines for creating wealth. In the list of 57 Shenzhen people, 18 of them are engaging in TMT. In biopharmacy, Li Xiting and Xu Hang from Shenzhen Mindray Bio-Medical Electronics Co. Ltd., Du Weimin from Bio Kangtai Co. Ltd. and Wang Jian from BGI are taking the lead in the biopharmacy segmented markets.

　　As the 5G era is drawing near, the compiler estimates more rich people are expected to emerge from artificial intelligence, cloud computing, robots and blockchain technology in the new round of industrial Internet development.
