10 Brands Named Well-known Trademarks

2013-01-07

Ten Shenzhen brands have been approved as well-known trademarks in China by the State Administration for Industry and Commerce, the city's market supervision administration said Friday.

Three of the brands are in service-related industries, including interior decoration, property management and estate sales and marketing, while three others are for electronic products, the administration said. The selected brands include BYD, Huaqiang and Kingkey.

Shenzhen now has 103 brands approved as China's Well-known Trademarks, becoming the first vice-provincial-level city to have more than 100 of China's Well-known Trademarks.

Trademark applications and registrations have been increasing steadily in Shenzhen over the past two years. The city approved 36,574 trademarks in 2011 and received 32,669 applications in the first half of 2012. Among those applications, 18,450 were approved by the administration.

Shenzhen had 186,424 valid registered trademarks at the end of last June, ranking fourth in the country.

Among the city's valid registered trademarks, more than 20 percent are for electronic products and the rest are mainly in areas including sales, clothing, lighting and science.

The administration also said that the number of trademark applications under the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks has grown steadily in recent years. A total of 114 brands have applied for the international registration.
