Commerce Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality Holds China-US High-Level Dialogue on Green Ports and Low-Carbon Cities

  On August 12, Commerce Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality, jointly with South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) and Invest Hong Kong, came together to hold the China-US High-Level Dialogue on Green Ports and Low-Carbon Cities. More than 20 companies and institutions from Shenzhen and the US participated in the event online and offline.Focusing on topics of green and low-carbon emission, energy conservation and environmental protection, the dialogue facilitated Chinese and American government departments as well as enterprises to exchange experience with each other, and explore avenues and opportunities for future cooperation. The Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Los Angeles was invited to the dialogue and expressed support for this China-US cooperation on green environmental protection.

  At the dialogue, Wayne Nastri, Executive Officer of the South Coast SCAQMD, briefed on the progress and results of the recent cooperation with international organizations engaged in environmental protection, as well as the main measures and work plan for controlling air pollution in the South Coast area. Wayne also expressed his outlook on further exchanges and cooperation between China and the US in environmental protection, pollution prevention and control in ports and sea lanes. The Shenzhen Municipal Transport Commission and the Ecology Environment Bureau respectively talked about work progress and relevant policies of the green port construction and the Shenzhen Blue Sky Sustainable Action Plan. Invest Hong Kong focused on the Hong Kong government's green development philosophy and Clean Air Plan, and detailed the specific measures insupporting environmental technology, strengthening environmental education, and implementing low-carbon actions. In the following enterprise roundtable forums, many companies from the US, Hong Kong and Shenzhen shared their advanced technologies and practice in the fields of energy technology, smart ports, clean power, environmental protection equipment, new energy automobile and ships, and held a heated discussion on issues such as energy structure adjustment and the green and low-carbon transformation.

  As China officially put forward the goals of carbon peak and carbon neutrality, green and low-carbon environmental protection technology has ushered in a new round of development opportunities. JIAN Zheng, Deputy Director of the Commerce Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality, said that Shenzhen, as a special economic zone and pilot demonstration area in China, was a core engine city, like Hong Kong, for regional development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. There is huge potential for Shenzhen enterprises to cooperate with US and Hong Kong enterprises in terms of low-carbon environmental protection technology. The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Office (the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office), the Shenzhen Foreign Affairs Office, Qianhai Administration, and other departments, as well as Shenzhen's enterprises including Shenzhen Yantian Port Group Company Limited, Energy Group, BYD, and Hynovation participated in the dialogue, reaching consensus and generating synergy in promoting collaboration between China and the US, as well as mainland and Hong Kong.

  This event was jointly organized by the Global Economic and Trade Network Control Center of the Commerce Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality, and the North American Representative Office of Shenzhen. In the first half of this year, the Commerce Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality innovated to create a Global Economic and Trade Network Control Center, and actively carried out economic and trade exchanges in the form of Shenzhen Headquarters + Overseas Network, Online + Offline, and explored new paths for overseas economic and trade work under the backdrop of the pandemic. Since its establishment, the Global Economic and Trade Network Control Center has carried out many economic and trade exchanges across North America, Japan, Europe, Australia, and other regions, realizing positive results.
